Participants of the 2017 Northern Mallee Leaders Program were given a valuable insight into our regional transport, tourism and trade last week. Visits were paid to multiple venues in both NSW and VIC. Six speakers across 5 venues, talked about key aspects of the economic growth in our region, about tourism now and in the future, about community projects and about art and ageing. The diversity of each program day is quickly becoming the hallmark of the NML program.
Glenn Collihole, Chief Operations Officer
The first stop of the day was Wakefield’s Transport in Merbein, with Glenn Collihole, Chief Operations Officer, talking about linking Sunraysia’ s Exports to the world, which Wakefield’s does very expertly, as sole users of our train track.
Jenny Garonne, ex-CEO Mildura Development Corporation
Jenny Garonne, ex-CEO Mildura Development Corporation, then dared us to think about what our region may look like in 2050 in terms of economic development and pointed to the many opportunities in our region.
Marg Thomson, ex-Mayor and ex-Chair of Wentworth Community Bank
Marg Thomson, ex-Mayor and ex-Chair of Wentworth Community Bank, brought us back to the here and now with her discussion around community projects. She showed us how little things can make a huge difference in small communities.
Art Back Cafe
Anne Hederics, Owner & Artist
During a magnificent lunch at the Art Back Café, owner and artist Anne Hederics discussed the challenges of maintaining a vibrant culture in the region.
Sid Duckett , General Manager
The next stop was Murray House Aged Care, where General Manager Sid Duckett explained the Aged Care Health Industry in a ‘non sugar coating’ way.
Bill Burke, CEO
The final stop of the day was at Mildura Airport. CEO Bill Burke organised a tour of the runway and talked about the expansion plans of the airport.
Mildura Airport were the sponsors for this Program Day. Northern Mallee Leaders 2017 participants take this opportunity to gratefully thank our sponsor of this Program Day.
